Peter Parkes, President

Lent Report

  • Met weekly with the Senior Tutor and Bursar to discuss current College affairs and ECSU activities
  • Attended meetings of the Master and Tutors Committee and Governing Body, and communicated the views of ECSU to the Fellowship
  • Oversaw organisation of Halfway Hall
  • Arranged a loan to the ECSU Shop to enable College Bill payments to restart
  • Coordinated an overhaul of the Societies Funding process, resulting in a quicker and more open system of allocation
  • Judged Miss Emmanuelle and presented University Challenge heat
  • Re-graded rooms in North Court
  • Attended a meeting of the Emmanuel Society Committee to discuss ways in which undergraduates could be involved in the activities of the Society, and to report on recent student activities
  • Organised the appointment of a Freshers' Committee, and held a first meeting
  • Organised the election of a new Assistant Treasurer following the former Treasurer's resignation

Easter Plans

  • Investigate a pay rise for Bar staff
  • Investigate the possibility of using profits made by the bar to augment the Societies Funding account, in order to make more money available to College Societies
  • Begin to overhaul the Constitution; a process which will probably continue during the long vacation

Arthee Yogendran, Vice President

Lent Report

  • Met weekly with the Senior Tutor and Bursar to discuss current College affairs and ECSU activities

  • Organised room balloting open days for current 1st and 2nd years
  • Attended the Societies Funding allocation meeting and discussion Helped appoint a new Freshers' Committee; attended and minuted the first meeting

  • Organise activities for Freshers' Week

Barbara Drew, Academic Officer

Lent Report

  • Publicised deadline for special requirements for exams
  • Attended library committee and library liaison meetings
  • Discussed ideas for exam term with welfare officer and put forward proposal to MTC
  • Redesigned advice leaflet for exam term
  • Organised subject parents formal
  • Helped select freshers reps for next year
  • Started organising subject parents for next year
  • More meetings with welfare officer to coordinate exam term activities
  • Discussed arrangements for mentoring scheme with Katie Dowbiggin

  • Print out advice leaflet, coordinate workshops, talks, bouncy castles for exam stress relief

  • Publicise mentoring scheme, and produce a database of possible mentors

Kath Toney, Access Officer

Lent Report

  • Took over the organising of the Shadowing Scheme, which ran over three consecutive weekends. This involved recruiting volunteers in Emma to have a school student shadow them for three days, making sure all volunteers knew what was required of them, and organising accommodation for the school students on the scheme.
  • Worked with CUSU Access Officer to get information packs to volunteers, and reported on each Shadowing Scheme weekend in the hope of making improvements to the next one.
  • Helped spread interest and find help for initiatives ran by the college's Schools Liaisons Officer, Katie Dowbiggin.
  • Spend two afternoons helping with Katie's initiatives myself. Talked to groups of GCSE students about the reasons for coming to university, and took them on a tour of Cambridge.
  • Answered emails from students all over the world asking questions about applying to and studying at Emma.

Easter Plans

  • Continue answering email queries.
  • Talk to CUSU about updating the alternative prospectus (once they find an Access Officer)
  • Spread awareness of CUSU's Target campaign, which is asking Cambridge students to visits schools in their local area and talk about life here.

Pete Inglesby, Assistant Treasurer

Claire Bailey, Buildings and Services Officer

Lent Report

  • Sorted out individual problems regarding accommodation and gyp rooms
  • Helped advertise the room open days
  • Tidied up the old JCR and got the cupboard door opened by the maintenance department
  • Liaised with the maintenance department about the broken gate at Barnwell Hostel and issues with the heating in College at the start of term
  • Informed the porters that undergraduates had been booking out both machines in the laundry at the same time, and asked them to keep an eye on things

Easter Plans

  • Continue sorting out individual problems with accommodation and gyp rooms
  • Keep the old JCR tidy
  • Enquire whether sports teams could send kits to the college laundry
  • Clarify rules for the college laundry and advertise them more clearly to prevent problems of Lent term

Priya Chandaria, Catering Officer

Lent Report

  • Maintained and strengthened relationship with head catering body
  • Successfully introduced suggestions by others and myself into the current service provided. eg. bean salad at lunch as an alternate source of protein, sauces and dressings separate from the meal, a larger variety of sandwiches
  • In conjunction with Vice President organised Halfway Hall
  • Arranged Parents formal at the request of the student body

Easter Plans

  • In conjunction with Welfare Officer, organising a healthy eating campaign
  • Continuing to ask for certain improvements in hall such as baked potatoes in the evening

Ben Gardner, Communications Officer

Lent Report

  • Sent out weekly 'What's On' to college staff and students with information on upcoming events and activities.
  • Publicised CUSU hustings, bar extensions, University Challenge night, Miss Emmanuelle, Safety Week, Rag Auction and societies funding in emails and by making posters.
  • Assisted with University Challenge organisation
  • Updated societies and sports pages on the ECSU website.
  • Maintained and updated the ECSU website and monitored forums.

Lent Report

  • Organised an election for junior treasurer
  • Went to CUSU council a lot
  • Assisted through participation in Miss Emmanuelle
  • Aided in the general running of the bar through revenue supply
  • Spoke in an open meeting

  • Bring motion about reading week to CUSU council
  • Go to CUSU councils
  • Lengthy research into the effects of spending the first half of the term in the library into alcohol tolerance in latter part
  • Attend Emmanuel College ball

Abi Routledge, Green Officer

Lent Report

  • Continually emptied recycling bins
  • made a new sign for the p'hole room recycling bin so people are actually aware of it
  • collected over 400 signatures in petition with Stop AIDS Society to send to local MPs campaigning to increase funding for ARV drugs (for AIDS) in Africa
  • wrote to council concerning lack of plastic recycling facilities investigated wind powered electricity providers as viable means of powering college
  • attended CUSU "Liberation Training" and reported back to ECSU
  • assisted in organisation of University Challenge Trials in the bar by marking and making hats (out of recycled paper!)

Easter Plans

  • continue to empty recycling bins
  • make new sign for JCR aluminium recycling bin
  • contact college staircase green reps to ensure they're doing their jobs
  • collect recommendations for, reward and publicise Recycler Of The Month
  • reconvene the Environmental Working Party to discuss possibility of switching college electricity supplier to wind power and other environmental and ethical issues

Charlie Breslin, Roar! Editor

Lent Report

  • Produced eight editions of ROAR!, printed and pigeonholed on Sunday nights. I reported on the Show Your True Colours Charity Bar Night, The Miss Emmanuelle Charity Night, the RAG Auction and the University Challenge Quiz.
  • Helped decorate the bar for Halfway Hall.
  • Helped publicise RAG Week, and took part in the Miss Emmanuelle Charity Event.
  • Helped with setting up the University Challenge Quiz, and wrote ROAR! from the bar.

Easter Plans

  • Produce a further eight editions of ROAR!
  • Continue to publicise the various events going on in College.
  • Try to negotiate some kind of special ROAR! for may week, such as a colour edition.

Sarah Johnson, Secretary

Lent Report

  • Written and published the agendas and minutes for the weekly exec meetings and twice termly open meetings. With the exception of the 6th March.

Easter Plans

  • I will continue to compile the agendas and write the minutes for exec meetings.

Jo Davis, Shop Manager

Lent Report

  • Successfully re-introduced EPOS payment into the shop, having asked college for a loan to enable this
  • Filled the shop with lots of new and exciting chocolate, sweets and bits of stationary
  • Sweet-talked bar managers into using the bar for ECSU events at the last minute
  • Made the shop show profit after years of losses!

  • Wrote & plagiarised quiz to choose college team for university challenge.
  • Responded to individual student queries on welfare issues.
  • Chose college parents and freshers reps.
  • Bought new squash rackets for college.
  • Bought new DVDs for exam term stress relief.

Rachel Douglas-Jones, Women’s Officer

  • Met with and introduced myself to Jo Read CUSU Women's Officer
  • Attended and voted in 4 Women’s Council meetings
  • Produced new up to date information posters for college loo doors in Front Court & the Bar
  • Reorganized the JCR Welfare/Women’s noticeboard
  • Publicised CUSU Eating Disorders Week
  • Attended CUSU Eating Disorders Awareness Forum
  • Attended and made notes on Liberation Training
  • Attended Women’s Officer Training.
  • Strengthened JCR/MCR Women’s officer relations; met with Emma Hunter and discussed collaboration.
  • Designed and put up posters for Safety Week, publicised events via What's On and Roar, helped make and pigeonhole individual leaflets with Abi, took part in an amazing Self Defence Course, ate lots of the Police woman's sweets.
  • Wrote up key points from each day from Safety Week for the website

  • Publicised the Panther Taxis Scheme in Roar, loo door posters and Women’s Email list

  • Communicated with Susan Rankin Women’s Tutor on Anniversary Events for 25 Years
  • Ordered Skin Cancer Awareness postcards for awareness in Easter

  • See the 25 year anniversary Formal runs smoothly
  • Discuss possibility of Anniversary Garden Party with Emma Hunter and possibly collaborate with other colleges who celebrate same year.

  • Send Ben the new Women’s website pages and those for being Healthy in Exam Term
  • Be part of the new Gender Agenda team
  • Plan a Breast and Testicular Cancer awareness Formal with Abi for Michaelmas.
  • Order the 5 point check cards from Breast Cancer Care and Cancer Research for Testicular Cancer
  • Pursue the Positive Body Image campaign by contacting the new Women’s Council Exec for status of this campaign.

Kate Baker and Chris Leach, RAG Reps

Lent Report

  • Selected and handed in the college's choices for the Cambridge RAG Charities Ballot 2004-05
  • Attended weekly Cambridge RAG meetings
  • Promoted and recruited participants for the 'RAG Blind Date'
  • Obtained permission from Dr Barnes for the events held during RAG Week
  • Promoted and organised the 'Miss Emmanuelle' and 'RAG Auction' charity events during RAG Week
  • Raised over £1800 for Cambridge RAG
  • Promoted central Cambridge RAG events within college

Easter Plans

  • Organise RAG events towards the end of term (once exams are over) when people will be free to attend them
  • Continue to attend Cambridge RAG meetings and promote RAG events within college
