. What’s On .

Something for everyone

If it’s music you’re after, and whether you’re into drum ‘n’ bass, indie or cheese, there’s always plenty to keep you occupied at Emma. Funk Da Bar, Cambridge’s best known student-run club night, fills the Bar every Wednesday night, while our indie nights have the whole college rocking out twice a term. In addition, there are twice termly bar extensions open to Emma students only.

Emmaents.com is currently not in use, but there are plans to revive it so you can get up to date info on what's happening around Emma.

The What's On Email

The What's On Email is a weekly email sent to undergraduates at Emmanuel College, listing events and announcements for the next week or so. The email is compiled and sent by the Communications Officer.

Inspire Children To Enjoy Science (And Do Some Fun Experiments...)

13/03/2010 at 00:00

Inspire children to enjoy science (and do some fun experiments...)

CHaOS is looking for volunteers to help out at "Crash, Bang, Squelch!" - a
huge hands-on family science day on Saturday 13th March 2010 (just after the end of term, at the New Museums Site). As part of the Cambridge Science Festival we'll be running experiments from all areas of science to explain the science behind everyday events and cool effects to kids young and old, and we need scientists of all kinds (natscis, medics, vets, engineers, compscis, mathmos...) to help explain what's going on.

No experience necessary, enthusiasm helps, refreshments (and even free lunch) provided.

To find out more and sign up to help out on the day, go to our website:
http://www.chaosscience.org.uk/dem/public_html/

E-mail contact@chaosscience.org.uk with any questions.

Urban Water And Sanitation Course: Challenges Of Collaborative Projects

13/03/2010 at 09:00

Engineers Without Borders Cambridge / Mott MacDonald WASH Series

The fourth instalment in the series, this course will aim to introduce participants to the manner in which urban development projects are carried out, and some of the technologies involved.

Donor organisations, NGOs, local government, consultants, contractors, end-user communities and operators all interact in these projects: What challenges does each actor face in its dealings with others? What pressures hinder success, and how can they be overcome? Participants will be introduced to the issues by expert speakers, and then find out for themselves in a practical exercise based on a real case study!

Addressing an aspect of development practice often neglected in training, this course is a must for anyone looking to work on development projects in any capacity.

Shelter Course 2010

13/03/2010 at 09:00

Interested in disaster relief and development?

Want to spend a day learning about shelter from experts in the field?

This course aims to provide an introduction to shelter, from international planning through to project implementation and the associated practical technical skills.

This will be the fourth year of the Cambridge Shelter Course. Planned for early March, it is aimed at students and professionals of all disciplines who want to learn more about the issues surrounding shelter in the wake of humanitarian crises - from initial response through to reconstruction, development and mitigation.

Due to extenuating circumstances linked to the recent Haiti disaster and ongoing relief effort, this year's course will run for 1 rather than 2 days.

With a mix of theory and hands-on workshops delivered by expert speakers, this course will educate and inspire.

Proxy Settings - A Message From The Computer Office

22/03/2010 at 00:00

The University Computing Service has recently introduced a general NAT (Network Address Translation) service for CUDN-wide private IP addresses. This means that you no longer need to configure your machine to use a proxy server to access websites outside of Cambridge or other programmes. For example, any reference to proxyconfig.pac should be removed from your settings. For more information, please see link:

http://www.emma.cam.ac.uk/teaching/computing/instructions/proxy/

If you have any questions, please feel free to email the Computer Office at co@emma.cam.ac.uk or pop to the office (top of B staircase in Front Court).

Please note that the web cache system will be decommissioned from Monday 22 March. This means that if you haven’t removed any proxy settings by then, you won’t be able to access the web.
